Improving Student's English

English means a great deal of our life. Nowadays, the importance of being able to communicate both orally and written of English has been being a vital. We can not be separated from English language if we want to make a relationship with neighbor. We are not alone. We are not only Javanese or just Indonesians. We are a part of global neighborhood. We are the citizens of earth. It means we have to think globally and act locally and spiritually. We have to take a part in the development of the world.

Nowadays, internet’s been being a life style. In our surrounding, there are many internet rental services; some school has been facilitated with an internet connection. This phenomenon also impact of daily life of students. Students can get some information and knowledge through internet. Then I have an idea to use social networking sites such as friendster of FACEBOOK, and bring them as technique to improve student’s English ability.

According to social networking site (SNS) is a site which allows uses to create personal page or profile and construct and display a social network of their online contact. It means by joining social networking sites, students have a chance to share their profile, posting photos and take a part in communication with other users globally and make a friend relationship without any limit and border. They can share every idea with persons from another village, school, city, and country. They also can join a group of interest from social foundation, entertainment, and world peace and youth organization and joining cause. It will make students get many knowledge and experiences from outsiders. They are ones of what students can do to improve our English.

Internet and social networking sites has advantages and also disadvantages.

1. Firstly they will make students have friends from different cultures and countries.
2. Secondly, they will make students have a chance to share their ideas, interests, photos and information with other users.
3. Thirdly, they have a chance to learn English as tool to operate the sites and also communicate with users from different countries both orally by using chatting video or written by using wall, comments, and chatting and other programs.

Then they can be used as learning and teaching media to learn English language because we can set he language using English. It will gradually improve student’s English ability, beside that, they have some disadvantages too, but teachers can limit them by giving good guiding and controlling on their sites.

One important thing, students can’t do those maximally if they have no ability in English. Of course they can use Indonesia language if we communicate with Indonesians. But if they want to make friends relations with overseas persons, it needs English. By understanding this.

As a conclusion, teachers can use social networking sites (SNS) as a teaching technique to teach English, and of course this is more interesting for the students although sometimes it spends much money but if the school has been facilitated with WIFI, it will be easier and cheaper, Let’s Try This Together !!!

Hotspot SMPN 1 Kabuh

Fasilitas Hotspot  di SMPN 1 Kabuh merupakan fasilitas sekolah yang diperuntukan  bagi semua warga dengan harapan agar semua komponen masyarakat terutama Siswa dan Pendidik dapat lebih banyak mendapatkan nilai tambah positif dari perkembangan teknologi komunikasi saat ini. Dengan menggunakan layanan ISP RRE net dan dukungan peralatan teknologi informasi yang modern serta sumber daya yang progresif diharapkan para peserta didik dapat belajar dengan baik.

Koneksi Internet Menggunakan Wireless (Hotspot)

Hotspot merupakan salah satu pemanfaatan wireless LAN yang biasanya dipasang di lokasi-lokasi publik seperti taman, restoran, perpustakaan, kantor, bandara, dan lain-lain. Pertama kali digagas tahun 1993 oleh Brett Steward. Dengan pemanfaatan teknologi ini, individu dapat mengakses jaringan seperti internet melalui komputer atau laptop yang mereka miliki di lokasi-lokasi dimana hotspot disediakan. Pada umumnya hotspot menggunakan standarisasi WLAN IEEE 802.11b atau IEEE 802.11g. Teknologi WLAN ini mampu memberikan kecepatan akses yang tinggi hingga 11 Mbps (IEEE 802.11b) dan 54 Mbps (IEEE 802.11g) dalam jarak hingga 100 meter. Tetapi kecepatan aslinya tergantung pada penyedia layanan ini.Selain memanfaatkan hotspot di lokasi umum, anda juga bisa memasang sendiri dirumah. Tentu saja harus berlangganan salah satu ISP yang koneksi internetnya bisa di sharing. Biasanya koneksi internet yang bisa disharing menggunakan koneksi ADSL atau TV kabel. Setelah koneksi internet tersedia, anda bisa menggunakan hub wireless untuk di sharing ke komputer/laptop lain tanpa menggunakan kabel. Hub wireless ini harus anda beli sendiri di toko komputer, karena provider ISP tidak menyediakannya.

Kelebihan
* Pada umumnya, laptop saat ini sudah dilengkapi dengan card wireless, sehingga anda tidak perlu membeli modem lagi untuk mengakses internet.
* Akses internet tidak hanya terpaku pada tempat dalam jangkauan kabel, tetapi dapat memilih tempat yang nyaman buat anda.
* Karena kecepatan aksesnya cukup tinggi, dapat digunakan untuk men-download sesuai dengan keinginan anda.
* Gratis, bila penyedia layanan tidak memungut biaya terhadap koneksi ini.

Kekurangan
* Jika anda ingin memasang koneksi internet ini di rumah, anda harus membeli hub wireless terlebih dahulu.
* Koneksinya tergantung cuaca. Jika cuaca baik, koneksinya bagus. Namun jika ada hujan dan petir, biasanya menjadi lambat bahkan putus.
* Kurang stabil jika digunakan dalam ruang tertutup, misalnya dalam kamar.

Jika anda hanya ingin memanfaatkan hotspot gratis, yang dibutuhkan adalah laptop atau handphone yang memiliki fasilitas Wi Fi. Namun, bila ingin memasang dan membagikan koneksi , anda harus membeli modem wireless.
